Chasing Illusions Prevents the Real Thing
“The Way does not require cultivation - just don’t pollute it. What is pollution? A fluctuating mind, fabricating artificialities and contrivances. If you want to realize the Way directly, all you need is your natural Mind. This is the mind without artificiality, without subjective judgments, without grasping or rejection.” - abridged from Chan Master Mazu, 12th Century.
When you remember that what you are searching for is that (who) is conducting the search, you can stop and discover what is already present; connection to Source/Being and the Real Version of what you were chasing. For example, if I chase after the illusion of love, I will never be present within it. When I remember that I am “made of” Love, the chase becomes superflous and ridiculous.
So stopping the chase means curtailing the fixations of all your component selves. And as we know, just being aware of the fixation is only Step One. Curtailing is Step Two. Replacing with a new, conscious, desirable behavior is the Imperative Step Three. Without that, there is a void that will be filled by our busy polluted mind.
These are the three stages of true change, development, and improvement. Not only possible, but far easier and more fun to do than our illusions let us believe. The power of Coaching goes lightyears beyond the first layer of goals, accountability, and the usual stories: Transformation to a place where you develop totally new and different goals, driven by your internal self, not just reacting to the noisy “shoulds” around you.
